Artist Statement:
This project was an exploration of juxtaposition, by combining classical art pieces with more modern day album covers I was able to create very interesting visual compositions. I wanted to take two contrasting concepts that people would recognize individually and create a combination they had never seen before. I introduced the concept of a mixtape because mixtapes are a culmination of popular works from different artists that are then edited and remixed into a whole new piece of art. Additionally, mixtapes largely influenced the development of hip-hop which was a large inspiration for this project. This concept of mixtapes was the driving force behind my project, taking other works of art and editing or combining them to create a completely new and unique work that's influences and roots are clear.
